Highs & Lows of the Weekend
Hello to some of my favorite online friends!
I’m a little late to the party this morning, but I made it! Better late than never, right? At least that’s my motto these days!
I hope your weekend was a great one! Ours was BUSY. A really great, productive, fulfilling weekend, but yes, super busy, so I’m wiped. I’m thinking today will be a pretty chill day so we can all recover a bit. I’ve seen a few other bloggers structure their weekend posts as “highs and lows” to show you the great parts, but also to keep things real and show you the not-so-great parts, because well, life isn’t always rainbows and butterflies, right?
Alright, let’s go!
A pumpkin painting and carving get together with friends! I got a little ambitious and invited a few of our friends and their kids over for a chili dinner and to carve and paint pumpkins. I think by the time I got everything ready and prepared for everyone to come over, I was already ready for bed, but it was all worth it and we had a really fun time. It was nice to be able to host and have people over again since we haven’t done it in awhile.
Friday night was a ROUGH night with little Reese. I could tell she was really gassy and uncomfortable, so she was grunting and groaning in her sleep or I was trying to get her to sleep for a good majority of the night. I felt like I barely slept a wink come Saturday morning. Thank goodness for Shakeology and coffee to give me some energy to get through the day.
I got some “me time” and scored some fun purchases at Old Navy! Well, technically I had Reese with me, but she just slept in the Moby Wrap the entire time so I felt like it was“me time”. I left Hunter with Cody on Saturday morning and wandered out to Old Navy to find a cute outfit for Reese since we had family pictures planned on Sunday. As I arrived at Old Navy, I discovered that it was 40% off the entire store, so I ended up meandering around for quite some time and picked up several other items for Hunter and a couple things for me too. It was seriously just what I needed, and I came home feeling refreshed and happy about my alone time and sale purchases.
Two highs in a row because thankfully there were more highs in our weekend than lows! We got to see my sister and her fiance on Saturday night! My sister lives in California, so it was a treat to have her in town and celebrate her birthday with her. We had a relaxing evening eating dinner and chatting over at my parents’ house – it was perfect!
Sunday morning was rough getting out the door to church on time. We barely made it … actually, we were a couple minutes late, but once again, better late than never, right? I was exhausted and I think Hunter was too, so he wanted to fight us on every little thing. He ended up eating a granola bar in the car because his oatmeal ended up on the floor after a big temper tantrum, and there were some tears shed on the way to church, but it was all good for our souls and we left church in a much better place than when we showed up.
We got family photos done on Sunday evening, and I cannot WAIT to see them! Our good friends are great with photography, so they generously offered their talent and services to us. Hunter made things a little difficult at times, but that’s to be expected with a 2.5 year old. Other than that, I think things went really well. The weather was perfectly overcast for great photos, we all made it there with no spit up or poop explosions on our clothes, and I know we got a few that we were all looking at the camera, so I’d call it a success.
I got an email from Bath & Body Works about their buy one get one free 3 wick candles + 25% off coupon on Sunday morning, so we wandered over there after church on Sunday to pick up a couple candles since they’re my favorite. Initially I had planned to leave everyone in the car and go in by myself real quick, but Hunter was SO excited to get out and help me, so I decided to take him in with me. I set him down real quick to pay, and next thing I know, I hear a shatter and turn around to find that Hunter had dropped a candle and it broke all over the floor. Ahhh, I felt TERRIBLE. Fortunately, the ladies that worked there were incredibly sweet and understanding. It made me so grateful for gracious people! Well, then we got home, I put the bag of candles on the counter, and went to feed Reese in the living room. I heard a *crash* come from the kitchen, and I just knew it was the candles. Sure enough, Hunter had reached up to grab the bag and they, too, shattered. Ahh, I was pretty upset, but I suppose it was my own fault for leaving them within his reach. Cody came to the rescue and managed to salvage the candles so they’re still burnable, but they don’t have the pretty glass or labels anymore. Oh well… *sigh*
Because I have to end things on a happy note… Reese slept great both Saturday and Sunday nights! Both nights she went to bed around 10:30 PM, woke around 4:00 AM to feed, and then woke again at 7:00 AM to feed. Ahhh, I felt like a new woman after two great nights of sleep, especially after Friday night. Thank you little Reese!
I think that covers most everything! I’m off to tackle the grocery store with both kids in tow, and then I’m declaring it a lazy afternoon. Hope you have a great start to your week!
